Studying Psalms 23
Studying Psalm 23: When David talks about "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want", what does this mean to you? The word want has a broader meaning than expected. It doesn't imply he is deficient or lacking in anything. He means he is utterly content in the Lord as his shepherd and he is not desiring anything more. This seems to be a strange statement from David to make since he was hounded repeatedly by his enemies. He was obviously a man who knew acute hardship, personal poverty and spiritual anguish. Since we are children of God, it is not true that we will never experience personal adversity. One of the fallacies among Christians is that if a man or woman is prospering materially, it is a blessing from God upon their lives. Not true!!! When the good shepherd, Christ himself was with us, he said to his disciples before he departed , "In this world, ye shall have tribulation - but be of good cheer - I have overcome the world".
